Psychology Assessments
We provide assessments for both paediatric and adult clients.
At The Social Domain we offer comprehensive psychology assessments for both children and adults. Whether you're seeking clarity on learning differences, attention difficulties, or neurodevelopmental conditions like autism, our experienced psychologists are here to guide you through a thorough, compassionate process.
What is the Process?
1. Initial Consultation
We begin with an initial consultation to understand your concerns, gather background information, and determine which assessments are most appropriate.
2. Assessment Sessions
Assessment sessions involve a combination of structured testing, clinical interviews, and standardised rating scales. Depending on the assessment, we may also gather input from teachers, parents, or other relevant people in your life.
3. Results Discussion
Once testing is complete, your psychologist will carefully analyse all collected data and prepare a detailed written report. This includes a clear explanation of findings, diagnosis (if applicable), and practical recommendations for support at home, school, or work. You'll have the opportunity to meet with your psychologist to discuss the results in full, ask questions, and leave with a clear understanding of what the findings mean for you or your child moving forward.
ASSESSMENTS
Cognitive & Developmental Assessment
A cognitive and developmental assessment evaluates how an individual thinks, learns, and processes information. It examines reasoning ability, working memory, processing speed, and general intellectual functioning. These assessments help identify intellectual disability, giftedness, school readiness, and other developmental challenges that may be affecting a person's ability to reach their potential.
This assessment may be helpful if you or your child:
Is struggling academically despite putting in effort
Appears significantly advanced or behind peers
Has delayed milestones or developmental concerns
ADHD Assessment
ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, impulse control, and behaviour regulation. It can present differently from person to person - some individuals are predominantly inattentive, others are hyperactive-impulsive, and many experience a combination of both. ADHD also impacts thinking, emotions, and social interactions, and often looks quite different in children than it does in adults.
Common signs of ADHD include:
Difficulty sustaining focus, especially on tasks that aren't stimulating
Frequent forgetfulness or misplacing items
Acting impulsively without thinking through consequences
Restlessness or difficulty staying seated
Poor time management and difficulty with planning
Inconsistent performance across tasks or settings
Our ADHD assessments look at the full picture - not just attention in isolation, but how difficulties impact daily life, relationships, learning, and emotional wellbeing.
We have a collaborative relationship with Kin Clinic, a psychiatry clinic located in Brighton.
Where clinically appropriate, individuals who complete a psychological assessment with us may access a short psychiatry review appointment for medication consideration based on their assessment outcomes. Current wait times via this pathway are approximately 2 weeks, significantly reducing delays in accessing medication support.
Autism Assessment:
Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects cognition, emotion, social interaction, and sensory processing. It exists across a broad spectrum, meaning each individual has a unique experience and profile of strengths and challenges.
Common signs of autism include:
Differences in social communication and interaction
Strong preference for routine and predictability
Intense, focused areas of interest
Sensory sensitivities (e.g., to sound, light, textures, or tastes)
Difficulty interpreting social cues or unspoken rules
Literal thinking and challenges with abstract language
Autism in women, girls, and adults is often underdiagnosed or missed entirely, as many people learn to mask their difficulties over time. Our assessments are sensitive to how autism can present across different ages, genders, and life stages.
FEES:
Assessments Fees depend on the assessment type and the time required to administer, score, and report. Assessment sessions and report writing are typically billed at $245 per hour.
Medicare rebates may be available with a referral from your GP under a Mental Health Treatment Plan or under the CNDD- M10 (from those aged 25 or under) through Paediatricians or Psychiatrists. Please ask our team about your options.
