Sing for Strength
A Speech Pathology Led Voice & Wellbeing Choir for Older Adults
Strengthen the voice. Boost confidence. Enhance connection.
Sing for Strength is an evidence-based choir program designed specifically for older adults experiencing age-related voice changes (presbyphonia). Led entirely by qualified Speech Pathologists, this program blends therapeutic voice exercises with group singing - supporting clearer, stronger and more confident communication in daily life.
Why Voice Matters in Ageing
As we age, the voice often becomes weaker, breathy or less steady - a natural process known as presbyphonia.
This can lead to:
Reduced communication clarity
Difficulty being heard in conversation
Social withdrawal or loss of confidence
Decreased wellbeing
But the ageing voice can be trained - just like any muscle.
With regular, targeted practice, older adults can improve vocal strength, breath support, projection, and stamina.
About the Program
Sing for Strength is not “just a choir.”
It is a structured 12-week program incorporating therapeutic, evidence based voice exercises used in clinical practice:
Semi-occluded vocal tract exercises
Breath-voice coordination drills
Pitch range and resonance work
Gentle vocal strengthening
Cognitive, social and wellbeing-enhancing group activities
Plus uplifting singing to consolidate technique and foster joy
All sessions are delivered by Certified Practising Speech Pathologists with specialist training in voice.
